Meghalaya has numerous tourist attractions that are famous all throughout the world. It has some of the gorgeous waterfalls like Mawlynnong Falls, Elephant Falls and Nohkalikai Falls, world’s wettest places like Mawsynram and Cherrapunji and the longest caves such as Mawsmai Caves and Krem Liat Prah. 1. Nohkalikai waterfalls
Nohkalikai waterfalls are one of the tallest waterfalls in India, falling from a massive height of 1115 feet which is a great wonder in itself. 3. Umiam Lake
This is one of the most beautiful man-made lakes that you can find. 4. Elephant falls

13. Krem Liat Prah
Various natural wonders and a large number of natural caves are found over here which are still unexplored. It is the longest natural cave which is 34 kilometers long. It is located on the Shnongrim Ridge which is in the East Jaintia Hills. Almost 150 caves are found over here. Some of the major places to be visited here are the Mawsmai Caves, the Krem Falls and many more. More connected caves are being discovered gradually.
14. Khasi Hills
This untainted place is one of the wettest places on earth. It is surrounded by dense rainforests and picturesque hills. It is a refreshing retreat, located at a distance of 46 kilometers from Shillong. There are various places of interest over here like Dawki River, Mawlynnong, Umiam Lake and Shillong. 15. Garo Hills

17. Seven Sisters Fall

18. Siju Cave
This interesting cave is located amidst the Simsang River and the Naphak Lane. This cave is also popularly called the Bat Cave as different species of bats can be spotted over here. You can find a lot of limestone rock formations over here. It is a dark cave as it lacks sunlight. It is located near the Siju Village, Near Bhagmara Town. 19. Lalong Park in Jowai
It is a great nature escape in Meghalaya. It is set amidst the Jaintia Hills and is surrounded by beautiful landscapes on all sides. It has a perfect scenic natural setting as it overlooks the beautiful Pynthorwah Valley. This place has a very negligible crowd which makes it a very calm and serene place to visit. It is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from Jowai. It is a picturesque place which is filled with canals and dams. 20. Lady Hydari Park
It has beautiful landscaped gardens which have been built in the Japanese style. It is a pleasing sight which also has a beautiful small zoo. The zoo has various animals like porcupine leopard, Serow and deer, Himalayan Black bear and many more. The museum in the park is also very famous. This park is located in Lachumiere in Shillong.
21. Don Bosco Museum
This is one of the largest museums and has 7 floors and 17 galleries to be explored. You can simply walk around exploring the weapons, handicrafts, lifestyle and cultural history of the entire place. It is located in Mawlai Phudmuri and is a great option to know about the Northeastern Indian culture. Culturally curious tourists would love to visit this museum.
22. Balpakram National Park
It is a great place to explore flora and fauna and it is also called the Land of Spirits. It has a myth revolving around it. It is located in Tura, in the South Garo Hills. It is located at a height of 3000 feet and is surrounded by beautiful landscapes on all sides. It is a great place to visit for both the wildlife enthusiasts as well as for the nature lovers.
23. Mawthadraishan Peak
It is located on the road connecting Shillong and Nongstoin. It is a very scenic tourist place which is located amidst the Mawthadraishan peak. You can see the Garo Hills from here. It is surrounded by the Khasi Hills, the Himalayas and Bangladesh. It is located on Mawroh and Markasa Village. You can even spot some fish ponds over here. 24. Nartiang Monoliths
This is an interesting site which has some of the world’s tallest monoliths. The Natiang market has a huge collection of monoliths which are worth exploring. Some of the monoliths are as old as 500 years old. Dolmens, moo shynrang, and Menhirs are some of the things of which these monoliths are made up of. 25. Dain Thlen Falls
The water streams fall from a huge height over here. The gushing waters are from the 80 to 90 metres. It is located at a very short distance of 7 kilometers from Cherrapunji. The entire place is surrounded by ideal landscapes. The beauty of the waterfalls will calm your nerves. The surrounding terrains make it look even more beautiful.
26. Air Force Museum
From this museum, you can know about the history of the Indian Air Force. You can spot various pictures and photographs that were taken during the Indo-Pakistan and the Indo-China wars. Here you can find various mini models of the aircraft, missiles, and even rockets. It is located in Upper Shillong and is a good place to visit to know about the country’s defense forces.
27. Police Bazar
It is a one-stop shop located in Downtown Shillong where you can even enjoy the liveliness of the place. 28. Ward’s Lake
Ward’s Lake is a very popular artificial lake which is also known by the name of Pollock’s Lake. Although it is located in the middle of the city, it is surrounded by beautiful greenery on all sides. The lake is in the shape of a horseshoe where you can walk around the lake over the cobbled stone pavements. It was named after Sir William Ward. He was the then commissioner of Assam during the late 19th century.
29. Mawkdok Dympep Valley
It is a very scenic place amidst the abode of clouds. It is surrounded by a velvety green vegetation. You can view the entire place from the Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge is simply spectacular. It is located on the Shillong Cherrapunji Road. This valley is located at a distance of just 32 kilometers from Shillong. It is an ecstatic place in Meghalaya.
30. Nokrek National Park
This national park is a great option to explore the biodiversity in Meghalaya. It is located at a distance of just 2 kilometers from the Tura Peak. You can spot various animal species over here like the Marbled Cat, Asian Elephant, Tiger and many more. It is a Biosphere Reserve with huge flora and fauna. Red Panda and a variety of birds can also be spotted over here.
31. Wah Kaba Falls
It is located at a distance of just 7.5 kilometers from Cherrapunji. It is a spectacular waterfall which is filled with tourists and picnickers. It falls from hundreds of meters high and looks breathtaking when clouds merge in. It is located in Umstew in Cherrapunji. It is surrounded by lush greenery on all sides and is a perfect blend of nature.
32. West Jaintia Hills
It is located in the Jaintia Hills with picturesque valleys. It is located at a distance of 75 kilometers from Shillong. It is a prominent location ideal for explorers. One can visit other places from here too like the Krang Suri Falls, the Thadlaskein Lake and the Monoliths in Nartiang. A wide range of natural caves is also located over here. Unique tribal culture can be witnessed over here.
33. Arwah Cave
It is an extensive cave formation in Meghalaya and is a very popular tourist spot. The entire cave is not open to the public; only a part of them is open for them. Fossils of various marine animals can also be found over here. Some of them are as old as 30 million years. Since this is an offbeat place of visit, it should not be missed by the tourists.
34. Rainbow Falls
It is a very beautiful place of visit located very close to the village of Tyrana. This place is very popular for its living roots villages. An hour walk is required to reach these falls from the village. The stream of water falls directly in a turquoise pool forming rainbow type reflections. It is located on the Nohkalikai Road in Cherrapunji.
35. Ramakrishna Mission Ashram
Swami Vivekananda himself had started it in 1924 and now it has become an iconic building. It is surrounded by the sea of green on all sides. It is both a spiritual place as well as a picturesque. It is located in Khliehshnong in Cherrapunji. This place has gradually evolved a lot in these years.
36. Kynrem Falls
It is located at a very short distance of just 12 kilometers from the main city of Cherrapunji. It is set amidst Thangkharang Park. It is in the East Khasi Hills and falls from a height of 305 meters. It is primarily the 7th highest waterfall in the country. It increases in size during the monsoons during to the rise in the water level.
37. Thangkharang Park
This park is famous for its amazing views and many footbridges. It is located in Sohra which is on the Thangkharang Road. You can even see the amazing Kynrem Falls from here. It is a place of scenic wonder and looks even more beautiful when it starts to rain. It is an eminent place of visit where you can also find the very famous Khoh Ramhah Rock.
38. Khoh Ramhah or Motrop
It is also popularly known as the Pillar Rock or Motrop. It is a mesmerizing attraction where two rocks are joined with adds beauty to the scene. A small stream flows from there which leads to the formation of a small waterfall too. It is located inside the Thangkharang National Park in Sohra.
39. Tyrshi Falls
It is located in between Shillong and Jowai. From here you can seek a great view of the Pynthor Nein. It is located at a distance of just 5 kilometers from Jowai. There is also a beautiful arch bridge where you can walk around exploring the spectacular beauty of the surroundings. The trees surrounding the place adds beauty to the falls.
40. Thadlaskein Lake
It is located at a distance of just 8 kilometers from Jowai. Various legends regarding an ancient chieftain circulate in the place. The reflection in the water on a sunny day simply looks breathtaking. The place holds great religious significance and it is located in Mukhla in Meghalaya.
